Self-Preperation Tips for DELF B2

I decided to write this article to help those who want to race the DELF B2, which is somewhat challenging!

I took the exam when I was at B14 level, so no doubt that it is somewhat like skipping levels. I took the test because I was going to enter the International Program (PI) at my university so I thought that if I pass the DELF B2, I could have more time to focus on my university courses.

The time I decided to prepare for the test, I was just nervous, but thinking of challenging myself about how far I can go.

And finally I succeed it with the final point of 78.50/100 learning a lot and also found a lot of useful tips & tools that I’m keen on sharing with you guys!

So here are the process, tips, websites and books that I’ve found completely useful for the exam:

The First Thing You Need to Do is to Learn the Basics

It is quite important that if you want to pass the DELF B2, you really have to be at that level, so what to do?

I’d say self- study is a must, but how?

Well, you may have to find the right books for basic learning before you start approaching the tests.

The book I love for the Delf B2 basic learning is “Γ‰dito Niveau B2”. We can find it for free on the Internet (it took me time and I finally found this book free on www.issuu.com)

Now you have the student book, it’s great! But along with that, you need to find an instructor (since it is self-study, I refer to Γ‰dito Guide PΓ©dagogique). You can also find it for free Here , but make sure you have an account!

The Next Step is to Practice the Test

What I mean by here is that you may have the right level for DELF B2 now, but what you need to do next is to practice your 4 skills (Writing, Reading, Listening and Speaking) with DELF B2 preparation books.

I’d love to recommend 5 books:

- RΓ©ussir le DELF B2,

- PrΓ©paration Γ  l’examen du DELF B2,

- Les clΓ©s du nouveau DELF B2 ,

(available for free on www.pdfdrive.com

- abc DELF B2 (Find it for free on www.kupdf.net),

- Le DELF B2 100% RΓ©ussite (available at my institute IFC library)

Along with these books, you may find it useful to check out the real exam samples and rules:

Okay now we have all the books and we are practicing!

Here are some tips for the 4 modules that you may find helpful to improve your skills:

Writing

In the writing section, the DELF B2 tests your ability to write a formal letter and there are many different types of formal letters that you have to practice, so it is very important that you are able to use the right structures and accurate grammars.

Practicing is a must! When you finish your writing, check it well and learn to correct your own mistakes, how?

Check out on the internet the structures of which you are not sure and verify whether the type of structures or vocabularies you used, are frequently used by native speakers or not (you can know this by trying to find them on titles or in text on the web).

While preparing for the test, you can write the structures that you are unsure and check it latter on the Internet, so that you learn.

But during the exam, if you are not sure, use another structure!

Reading

Practice the tests and always seek to learn new vocabularies and structures!

I’d recommend www.larousse.fr it is an online unilingual dictionary, which is useful for French language learners to learn new vocabularies.

Listening

It requires practice that helps you feel accustomed to the test and you may have to find the way that works best for you. You will need to learn taking quick notes using personal abbreviations.

You will see the improvement as long as you practice daily!

The time I was preparing for the exam, I could not really find the listening source for DELF B2, so I listened to French news, podcasts, radio, debates and other entertainments in French.

Speaking

DELF B2 tests your ability to do a short presentation (10mn) and debate (10mn).

So no doubt, you have to practice speaking, but how?

Get a topic, plan and learn to speak in front of a camera and record yourself (as if it is a real test). After that, listen to your own recording and find your own speaking errors using the same technique as I mentioned above in the writing section.

That’s all now! But remember, time management and accuracy are important!

BONNE CHANCE ;)
